My Design Process
I realized I have shared some of my designs, but haven't shared my design process. This is pretty much the same whether it is a custom, semi-custom website design, website re-design or logo. You can see the latest project in this video or you can keep reading to see examples from other projects too:https://youtu.be/pmFQdyLaYCEThis process is more extensive than my process for designing Youtube Art and custom content.
Discovery
I get to know my customer and their business. What are their goals? What has been holding them back from achieving them? How can I help them achieve that?During this phase I also get a good feel for their vibe to see what type of images, fonts and colors to tie into their design.Based on the clients answers to these questions we determine what they do and do not want in the final product.
Collaboration
Time for me and the client to share our ideas for what the site should look like. We collaborate on a secret Pinterest board! We pin all sorts of image! Pictures the client relates to and some they want their brand to become.I use the top images on the secret Pinterest board to make the Mood Board. The Mood Board is a great way to for me to get inspiration and see if I'm on track with their brand vision. Some Mood Boards I've Created:
Initial Concept
Once the mood board is approved, the initial concept is created. For a website design, the initial concept includes the whole first draft of the site with the mood board and what the client indicated that they wanted in the discovery phase. This is the initial layout for the entire site. Images and copy are included in this concept. For a logo design, the initial concept could be 5-10 logos. From there we narrow it down to the top 3 to 5.
Revisions
I make updates to the initial concept based on what the client did and did not like. These updates include changes to the layout, images and copy of the site. Also the features of the site such as font and color palette.Things are tweaked until the client is happy.
Brand Board
Once the revisions are approved I put together a brand board for logo and/or website design. This ties everything in the mood board and initial concept together so that the client can see how things coordinate and to make sure this is what they really wanted. The choices in the color palette, typography and patterns make a huge impact on the final product so getting the client to see how they work together is important.A few Branding Boards I've Created:
Launch
Once everything is approved and the client loves their site and/or logo the site is launched and/or final logo files are sent! Time to party! This entire process takes between 7- 28 days, but depends on the number of revisions. What do you think of the process? Thanks for stopping by!Best,Erica
